Is Professional Care Worth It?

There is no doubt about it: senior care can be very expensive. In fact, paying for care can be such an issue for some that they decide that they can provide that care themselves. Rather than move mom or dad into a nursing home, these families decide that they will devote the next several years of their lives to providing senior care within their own homes.

In many cases, this can actually be a really smart idea. Spending time with a beloved family member in a place where they are happy and comfortable can be very helpful. There are studies out there that confirm when an elderly individual ages in place in a familiar setting, they are less likely to experience more severe health detriments. It can even help to relieve some of the severity of dementia, if this is a concern in your family.

When it comes down to it, though, there is a big difference between the level of care that a family caregiver can provide, and what a trained professional can provide. A professional has experience dealing with the potential pitfalls and problems that can arise in the midst of providing care, namely emergency situations. They also are trained in the best methods of administering to and tracking things like medication and other minor medical needs. In the course of a day, sticking to an organized routine can be tough if you have not been trained.

Looking at different types of professionals, a recent report from the U.S. New & World Report indicated that when it comes to nursing homes, there is even a difference between whether the home if for-profit or not for-profit. Based on a large review of data, it was concluded that non-profit nursing homes tend to have better scores and provide a slightly higher quality of care. There are many reasons why this is, some of which could include staffing, experience, and expectations, but the bottom line was that there was a clear distinction between the two.

The extra costs associated with professional care are well worth it, when you choose the right caregiver.

In short, the caregiver that you choose matters. At Paradise In-Home Care, we know that we can never replace the love and compassion that you can give as a family caregiver. But we want to do our best to fill in for you while you’re away. All of our caregivers have been professionally trained, have gained the hands-on experience that you want from a caregiver, and have been specially chosen for their position because of their attitude, love for others, and demeanor for the job. Being a caregiver is tough, but when the right person fills in, many of the concerns that have been raised about caregivers disappears.

This is even more so the case when that care comes to you. You remain in control of the quality of care that your parent receives because they are still living with you. But instead of needing to take time off to attend to their needs, a trained professional steps in to carry this burden. In short, your mom still gets all of the benefits of being at home, but under the supervision of a professional.

Yes, professional care is worth it.
