Care Options for Veterans

Even though the VA does not technically offer long term care coverage, there are a few different things that veterans may be eligible for through the VA. Many of these programs are underused simply because the people that are eligible for them either don’t know about them or do not know how to apply for them. This is why it is so important that we be involved with the care of our elderly loved ones. Sometimes, just having another person involved in the process can help improve the quality of care that’s received in a big way.

If you have a loved one that is a veteran and isn’t sure how they will afford senior care, perhaps it would be worthwhile to help them to apply for the Veteran’s Aid & Assistance Pension Benefit. According to some reports, this benefit is used very rarely. Only about 5 percent of the available funds are even applied for because it’s not as well known as other senior benefits that currently exist.. This benefit can help with care and other living expenses.

If you have questions about eligibility for this or any other program that the VA offers, get in touch with your local office for more information. They can help point you in the right direction. With many programs, spouses are also covered when it comes to eligible funds and expenses. Other programs that can help might be discovered this way, too.

Of course, just applying for this aid doesn’t guarantee anything. Working with an attorney that specializes in helping older veterans can help with the process, as can getting in touch with your county’s Department of Senior Services. There are often far more avenues of help out there than we are aware of at first, and working with someone who specializes in helping elderly veterans get the care and assistance that they need can be a good way to skip the hurdles and find exactly what’s needed most.

Veterans certainly have a special place in our hearts and our society, and it is heartbreaking to see a veteran not get the care that they deserve–just like it is when anyone else isn’t receiving the proper attention needed when it comes to senior care.

Veterans often have care options available that they didn’t know about.

Also, it’s important to remember that the VA is just a starting point. If you have a loved one that is a veteran, the VA might cover all of their needs, but if not, there are always other routes to go where help can be found.

Have more questions about senior care? We’d be happy to help you out, regardless of whether or not your parent has veteran status. All seniors deserve the very best care possible, and while there are certainly some extra options for payment out there for veterans, the elderly population deserves the best care and attention that can be given. Our trained professional caregivers pride themselves in giving the best care possible. If you have questions, or think that we might be of any service to you, please get in touch with us at your convenience.
