A Drawback to Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care has a lot of benefits, especially when it comes to relieving chronic back pain. But although chiropractic treatment does have several benefits, researchers are also beginning to find that there can be some major drawbacks to this method of care. A procedure known as high velocity neck manipulation has been linked to a loss of vision. A study coming from the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center has indicated that this procedure puts stress on the eyes and might lead to spotty vision. Their study was recently published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports.

 

The case in question was regarding an older woman who lost a portion of her range of vision after receiving such a treatment. It took about two weeks for her sight to return to normal. Cardiovascular experts have issued warnings about this treatment in the past because it is believed that this procedure may be connected with a certain type of stroke called vertebral artery dissection. The American Heart Association commented about this chiropractic treatment back in 2014.

 

Chiropractic care has benefits, but there may be hidden dangers, too.

Also, this link is still in its preliminary stages of investigation as this was one of the first studies to point to this outcome, but the researchers involved in the study were concerned that this could be a much bigger issue than many believe.
