The Issue of Employment

Many senior care services are having a hard time finding and keeping caregivers as employees. This is a hot topic in the senior care industry today, but it’s not one that a lot of people feel comfortable talking about. But just because it isn’t widely spoken of does not mean that it doesn’t have an impact on your life.

Think about it like this. Studies show that seniors do better from both a physical and mental health perspective when there is continuity of care. Keeping things the same does less to disrupt their life and helps to keep higher levels of health. If this is disrupted because of a new caregiver every two weeks, it isn’t just an inconvenience, it could have a negative impact on the health of someone you love. Suddenly, the employment situation in the senior care industry is extremely important to your family.

When you’re looking for care for a loved one, you need to ask tough questions like this. Yes, they might be sensitive subjects, but when it comes to the health and long term happiness of someone that you love, then worrying about formalities and being polite sometimes need to take a backseat. At Paradise In-Home Care, our top priority is helping the people that we care for live better. If you need to ask a few tough questions to be assured that they are going to be in good hands, then we encourage you to do so.

Senior care can see a lot of job turnover. This is what we do to help you avoid this.

There are a few reasons why this is happening. One, the senior care business in general is growing because of an increased need. There are more job openings here than ever before, and people who never have considered that they might want to be caregivers are applying for jobs because of the new opportunities that exist. Many that come to this job soon discover that it’s not what they expected, and then leave.

The other reason is the overall economy. Unemployment is at a historic level right now, meaning that more people are working than they had been in the past. This is a good thing, but it also has made it so that people can be more choosy about where they work. Changes in insurance and other laws have also made this a lot easier, and it’s not uncommon in any sector to see a higher turnover rate than before. Unfortunately, that’s one of the negative consequences of a strong economy.

For your benefit, we try to take every precaution to ensure that we only higher caregivers that want to be in the profession and have the right disposition to thrive here. We conduct background checks and have our caregivers go through extensive training if they are hired. We want to make sure that they are here because they want to help others and that they have the right training to know what this is like before they ever step into someone else’s home. We can’t control everything, but we do our best to make sure that only qualified and dedicated caregivers commit to a job.
