Insurance Companies Taking Seniors into Account

Humana is one of the biggest insurance companies in the United States, and it is increasingly recognizing that the senior citizen population is the fastest growing sector within their client base. Their newest project involves the opening of a new center, called Humana Studio H, in the Boston (Massachusetts) area. The center is designed to focus on digital health and analytics, with the purpose of improving the attention that senior citizens receive.

In some parts of the country, the attention given to senior care is still lacking. One of the hopes that Humana has is that their entire process can be streamlined a little bit and the overall quality of care that is received can be improved upon. This is certainly an admirable goal, and hopefully they are completely successful with their mission.

As Humana CEO Bruce Broussard put it, “What we’re developing in Boston is a critical capability that can help Humana leap forward and overcome friction points to create a simplified, connected and personalized health care experience for our members and the physicians and others who provide their care.” In the end, it’s people like you, me, and our family members that win with this move.

Insurance companies like Humana are taking steps to make senior care more accessible.

To treat the issue fairly, it’s not like insurance companies are bad guys. They provide a very important service by making healthcare affordable and accessible when it’s needed. However, they are a business, and as a business, tough decisions regarding money need to be made. Unfortunately, it is people that are impacted by these decisions, and it’s not always pleasant. Making care more efficient can cut costs, and thus provide more benefits to the people that need more help. That is especially pertinent to seniors, and changes that make care streamlined and more accessible will ultimately benefit the elderly population a good deal. Changes to the services provided can be beneficial to both the insurance companies and the people receiving care, but change is sometimes difficult to implement. Luckily, it is happening more consistently today than ever before.

When the insurance companies begin to realize that it is important to be proactive when it comes to senior health, progress can be made in a very real way in the lives of the people that we care about. Let’s face it: there are a lot of things that we know we should do to help improve the lives and the health of the people that we care about and ourselves. But paying for those things out of our own pocket is sometimes impossible. Whether we want to admit it or not, sometimes we find ourselves at the mercy of the insurance company here.

Humana is not the only company that is beginning to take these steps, they are just one of the more prominent examples. As senior care becomes more widely recognized, hopefully the people that we love and care about will have more and more options open to them and the country’s overall ability to care for its older population will continue to improve. The people we love deserve great care. Thankfully, that is becoming more possible each day.
