Five Types of In-Home Care

There are a few different kinds of in-home care workers that you will find, but this isn’t always readily apparent at the first glance. When you first start your search, you might not even have much of an idea of what you are looking for when it comes to your loved one’s supervision. Learning a bit more about in-home care, and the various things that you will encounter as you find a caregiver, will help to ensure that you select the right caregiver for your family’s needs.

Caregivers can be found through five main sources. The first is through family and friends. These are typically referred to as family caregivers because they are typically close family members who are volunteering their time to help someone that they love. A family caregiver can play a very important role, but this isn’t always the best choice, especially if you have someone in your family who has needs that require a bit of training to fully meet.

The second type of in-home care is found on a registry. When it comes to professional caregivers, registry caregivers tend to be the cheapest alternative because the quality of the caregiver is not ever checked by an overseeing body. Think of this as someone who puts an ad online letting people know that they are available as a caregiver. There are many great caregivers that do this, but there are also many caregivers that don’t have adequate training. There might also be individuals that use this method for more sinister purposes. Since there is no oversight here, there is far more potential for someone with impure motives to pose as a caregiver.

The third type of in-home care is done through an agency. This is a step up through a registry, but there’s often no distinguishing between the two. The one positive of an agency is that there’s often some sort of check system when it comes to who they will list as an available caregiver, but not always. The agency is a go-between for independent caregivers and the families that need them. While the quality of care is sometimes checked, it isn’t always. Unfortunately, it is very easy to hire an unqualified caregiver through an agency.

In-home care comes in several different forms. Choose the right one for your loved one’s needs.

In-home care through a caregiving service is the fourth type. These caregivers are the ones that Paradise In-Home Care uses. They are employees of their company and have been fully trained by the company that they work for. This type of caregiver is much safer to go with because of that training and because of the strict requirements that companies have when it comes to hiring an employee.

The final type of in-home care is medical care. This is not administered by a caregiver, but rather by a nurse. The needs that are addressed with this type of care are medical in nature and not around the house chores. A medical caregiver can do these things, but typically does not because of the nature of their job.

If you’re going to hire a caregiver, it is really important that you know who you are hiring, and what exactly their expectations are. You want to make sure that the person you hire is in full agreement of what it is you are expecting from them before any sort of care agreement is made. Hopefully, this brief guide will help point you in the right direction.
