The Cost of Care is a Growing Concern

Wyoming was recently ranked as the worst state to live in if you were trying to get senior care for yourself or a loved one. It ranked very poorly when it came to the general cost of living and the cost of senior care, but more detrimental to Wyoming’s ranking was the fact that it offered very little in terms of support for senior citizens. Only one state was ranked lower than Wyoming in this final category. This survey was done by caring.com and was posted on thinkadvisor.com.

According to the same survey, Oklahoma was the best state to live in. They had one of the lowest costs of living with only four states that were less expensive to live in, had the third lowest costs in terms of senior care, and when it came to senior support services, OK ranked #24. Their metrics placed this as the best state to live in if you’re going to need care. Obviously, even Oklahoma has a lot of room for improvement.

California did not make the top ten best states to live in for senior care, but it also didn’t make the top ten worst states, either. As far as retirement years in general went, California came in at #15. It ranked lower on the affordability scale, but as far as overall quality of life was ranked, CA was the 3rd highest ranked state in the U.S.

Most people can’t control the state where they live, and looking at this data might be a pointless exercise. However, knowing these things ahead of time is better than being unpleasantly surprised. It gives you more time to plan and compensate for any shortcomings you might be up against.

The increasing cost of care is of growing concern for many.

The cost of care can be unpredictable at times, which makes planning difficult. However, the sooner you start planning for your own or a loved one’s care, the easier this can be to manage. Now, it’s not always realistic to plan that far ahead, and things do change over time. And sometimes, the need for care can be completely unpredictable. Life happens, and sometimes senior care is necessary long before you ever think that it will be. This happens.
