When Should I Change My Elder Care Services?

Changing elder care services can be a monumental task at times. If you have a loved one that has resided in a nursing home before, you know what the process is like just to have them admitted into the facility, and the massive amount of paperwork that is required each month to keep them there. Making a change to this process will often more than double the amount of paperwork. Plus, it will require a lot of physical and mental work on several people’s behalf, as well. Needless to say, making a change is very rarely an easy, or even a welcome, task.

Aging in place is usually the best choice, but sometimes a change is needed in senior care.

Aging in place is usually the best choice, but sometimes a change is needed in elder care.

But sometimes it’s a necessary thing. Senior care experts have pointed to research that shows that aging in place is more beneficial to seniors. When an elderly person receives their senior care in a place that they are familiar with, and there is no need for them to move around, mental and physical health has been shown to stay at higher levels for longer periods of time. This is an average, and is not necessarily true for every single person. It’s also something that is not always beneficial to every person. For example, although in-home care provides many great services, things like kidney dialysis or reconstructive knee surgery cannot be done in the home. There is a time and a place for in-home care, and it’s not going to meet the needs of everyone.

Ideally, we should be striving to give our loved one’s the best senior care possible. For most, aging in place is best. But, this implies that we have made the very best decision on the first try. Unfortunately, no one is perfect. Even if we are well intentioned and well researched in our decision making process, mistakes can be made. People can also change, and the decision that was best last week might not necessarily be the best decision next week. That is the nature of life.

So, maybe you already have your loved one living in a nursing home or an assisted living facility, and now you are not one hundred percent sure that you’ve made the right choice. Maybe you made a quick choice because a decision was needed instantly, maybe your family’s situation has changed, or maybe you just made a mistake and are starting to second guess yourself. Maybe you’re still just unsure. It doesn’t matter. This is the happiness and health of someone that you love that we’re talking about. They deserve the best.

If this is the case, please give us a call today. Our consultations are free, and they’re designed to help you make the best choice possible regarding your loved one’s senior care. In-home care might not be realistic or right for you, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t help point you in the right direction or confirm that you’ve made the right choice already. Care is about people, and that brings up a lot of emotions. It can make these decisions tough. That’s why it’s important to rely on an expert that you trust.
