What Does Senior Care Do?

Contrary to what a lot of people think, just getting older is not a reason to start thinking about the need for senior care. There are a lot of people in their 80s and even 90s that do not have a pressing need for senior care. Some people will never require a day of care in their entire lives. Senior care is only necessary when someone begins to have difficulty with what have become known as the activities of daily living.

Activities of daily living (ADLs) are used by insurance companies, Medicare, and other professional health services to decide whether or not someone qualifies for certain services and types of care. As a general rule, there are six major ADLs that are looked at for these reasons. They include bathing, continence, eating, dressing, toileting, and transferring. In most cases, if there is a need for help in one or more of these areas, then your loved one will likely qualify for coverage for some sort of senior care, assuming that they are currently enrolled in Medicare or Medi-Cal.

From a technical point of view, this is what senior care is designed to do. It is there to help an older individual get through their day and provide assistance in the areas that are needed.

Senior care should do more than just provide the basics.

However, As a loving family member, you know that your mom or dad has needs far beyond these six things. Those six ADLs are important, but they are not the only things that your parent does or might need help with. There are a lot of components of senior care that go unrecognized by insurance companies that are just as important, or maybe even more so. Companionship is one of the most important parts of staying healthy for humans, but it is not recognized as a basic need in most models. That’s one of the great things about our type of senior care–we provide caregivers that provide the basics listed, and more.

Senior care comes in many different forms. At Paradise In-Home Care, we specialize in in-home care, but this is just one of many types. There are nursing homes, in-home health care, assisted living, senior day cares, family caregivers, hospice, and more. Senior care can take almost any shape, but that doesn’t mean that all senior care does the same thing or is even effective. Finding the right care for your loved one is what your goal really should be, and it’s what we pride ourself on helping people with. High quality senior care that is customized to do more than just meet your mom or dad’s basic needs is what you really want, and it’s what we can help you find.

Of course, in-home care isn’t right for everyone. Our services can help a lot of seniors to get the help and attention that they need to live a better life, but it isn’t always the best choice for everyone that’s in need. That’s why we will help you by going over your situation and what you’re looking for and help you to figure out if Paradise In-Home Care can meet those goals.
