When Your First Choice for Care Doesn’t Work

A lot of people misunderstand what Medicare and Medi-Cal will cover when it comes to senior care. There have been many stories about families who find what they think is the perfect care for their elderly loved one, only to find that their parent’s insurance will not cover the care that they had agreed on. Unfortunately, this is a major issue for families. Finding care is time consuming and can be very stressful. When your original plans fall through for care, it can be a disheartening and discouraging setback. But don’t give up! There are options out there.

In some case, Medicare or Medi-Cal will cover some or all of the services that you were hoping that they would. But when they don’t, don’t give up instantly. Instead, seek out alternative payment methods or types of care. There are many programs out there that are a lot more cost effective than paying for a nursing home out of pocket. You just need to know where to look to start your search.

When your first choice for senior care falls through, you do have other options available.

For example, the local Department of Aging and Disabilities or Senior Services may offer a daycare service for senior citizens. In some cases, these adult daycares will even offer medical care, such as what you would find at a nursing home. However, these programs tend to be drastically cheaper because there is no need to pay for a bed or three meals a day. Instead, prices tend to hover around $20 a day–depending on who runs the programs. This can be an ideal choice if your loved one is able to get around find. It provides them with supervision and assistance while you are out of the house during the day.

The VA, local churches, and other organizations near you may also have programs in place that can provide some sort of help. You might even find that you can now use a service that is even better than the idea that you previously had. There are far more options for senior care and for paying for that care than you will discover at first glance, so it really is worth looking into and spending several hours researching what is available in your area. In-home care like what we at Paradise In-Home Care provide is just one of the many options that you have before you. If you do have questions regarding how we can help you, please feel free to give us a call today and set up a free consultation. Even if you cannot use your insurance (either public or private) to pay for your care, there are sometimes grants available, depending on where you are located.

Many of these programs are need based. So, if this is something that is of interest to you, it is important to act sooner rather than later. Access to these services tends to be first come, first serve. The sooner you are aware of these programs, the sooner you can apply. And the sooner that your loved one can get the assistance that they need to get through each day more easily and safely.
