New Methods of Alzheimer’s Treatment Not Widely Accessible

Right now, there are at least ten different clinical trials underway for different treatment methods of Alzheimer’s disease. Some or all of these promise to slow down or even block the growth of the disease–something that is currently not being done well with other treatment methods.

This is quite encouraging, but the fact remains that the healthcare system in the United States is not prepared to begin implementing new Alzheimer’s treatments. These methods will hopefully be more successful than past methods have been, but changes will be needed. This includes how medical treatments will be administered. According to a recent study, even if one successful new method of treating Alzheimer’s was developed and made ready for public usage, the infrastructure for administering and applying these treatments does not currently exist. More expertise in this area is needed if this is going to be successfully administered.

Of course, it also includes access to high quality senior care. The growing senior population has been a note of concern for several years, and the need for more caregivers is greater now than ever before. It’s only going to grow in the coming years, too. The more seniors we have in our population, the more caregivers we will need.

Access to new Alzheimer's treatments might not be easily accessible in the future.

When someone that you love has Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, finding the right memory care is of high importance. The right care is dependent on a number of different factors. For example, someone in the early stages of Alzheimer’s will need a different type of assistance than someone with advanced Alzheimer’s. The former may very well thrive with a few hours of in-home care per week while the latter may very well need around the clock help in a nursing home setting. Individual needs play a large role in selecting the right approach to care.

Individual needs also play a big part when it comes to choosing the right caregiver, too. For example, even within the same caregiver service, not all caregivers are equal. One caregiver might be experienced with helping those with dementia while another might have more of a background in helping people recover from short term disabilities. This makes that service better equipped to handle a larger clientele, but one of the caregivers is better for your loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s than the other one is.

Your family and the situation that you are experiencing is unique, but that doesn’t mean  that a skilled care service cannot give your family the time and resources needed to manage your memory care needs well. In fact, a service should assess your needs and then come up with a customized care plan afterward. If you are currently at this stage in your search for senior care be sure to give us a call so that we schedule a free consultation for you and your family. We might be the best choice, or we might not. If we’re not, we will point you in the right direction to the best of our ability.
